Revolution 200 Review
Today I decided I’d take a little bit of time and read the huge Revolution 200 show recently put out by Prime. I didn’t realize, when I decided to do this, that it would take as long as it did because I didn’t realize just how huge this show was going to be but that’s a cool thing, honestly, because it’s such a huge show number that you really do need to make it feel huge and important. So it appears, just by opening the show up, that this show is going to accomplish that in spades. So lets get down to it. Some of my good, old fashioned, big time show feedback.
Back From The Dead – This was a very interesting opening. I haven’t been keeping up with Prime quite as much as I would like to have in the last several months, and I wasn’t aware that Rayne had his legs hurt badly, but it was cool to see him return for such a big show and the reaction that it got from Shakur and Daniels was pretty good as well. I can only figure that one, or both, of them is responsible for the injury to Rayne which should make for very interesting happenings later in the show.
Intro – This is a great way to do the actual intro to a huge show like this so I really liked it. The only part that I missed in it, and it’s a totally bias thing I’ll admit, is that some of the people who were mentioned in it didn’t do nearly what Los Diablos did in Prime and it’s a travesty that they would get a mention and the greatest tag team in the history of Prime did not. :P
Ok the bias, hype up my own characters, portion of this is over. I just had to say it. This was a great intro for the big show and you really couldn’t have asked for something better here.
The Rules of the Game – Two things become apparent to me, very quickly, in this segment. #1 I really can not stand, at all, the Lisa Tyler character. Sorry but I can’t stand her. She’s just so…so…I don’t know. Boring or something, I guess. She just plain sucks.
The best news for this segment, however, is the arrival of Tyler Nelson which is, easily, one of my all time favorite characters in this hobby and has always been a great character, no matter what role he’s currently playing in a federation. He’s just an amazing heel that works so well.
I love the way he immediately begins rubbing it in her face that a show he was running turned in such huge ratings numbers and the way he does it is absolutely perfect. I’m not sure that there has ever been a more perfect heel for these type of roles than Tyler Nelson and if there is one I’d sure like to have links to that persons work.
The addition of The PRIME Choice and the way he clearly has manipulated Nelson into believing things are just fine between them is awesome. I’m not sure if Nelson actually believed that, but I’m sure hoping he actually did cause it would work so perfectly, this will be a great night out of just these two characters alone.
The Uns Have It – Uhhh….ok. I’m not sure what this is about, I’m sure there is some character tied to this that I’m just missing out on, or never saw before, but that just seemed awfully random and didn’t really add anything to the show. At least for the moment that’s the way it would appear to me.
Definitely Not A Pep Rally – I haven’t read anything on this tag team before but it would appear that this is a different take on being the good guys that you usually don’t see and that being good guys who just want to be that. Good guys who wrestle good, and don’t have to swear or cheat or be ‘loved heels’ to get over. I would really hope this gimmick winds up working out over the long run.
Threats – Clearly there is a very heated rivalry going on between Jay and Natas and it sounds like it’s been a pretty intense one. That said this segment really doesn’t do much for me, sorry guys, but I’m just not really into the whole using gay humor as a way to get cheap heel heat for Natas against Jay simply because he’s a gay man. It just doesn’t work for me and it’s one of the biggest reasons that I feel like so many times when people run a character whose gay wind up not being all that great to watch feuds with because their opponents will always run to the lame, cheap, heat of bashing him for being gay. It works for most people but for me it’s just boring.
Match One – I enjoyed the match. It was pretty good action, nice pace, and I didn’t get bored thinking it was going to go on and on and on forever. Congrats to Wicked Ways, Wolves of Slaughter and Giancarlo Coppano.
Teamwork – This was a really great segment and it’s my favorite one so far. The trip down memory lane was awesome and the banter with Nelson, as always, was top notch. I really loved this segment and it had one of the best lines of the night, thus far, from Chandler.
“When's the last time you were part of a team other than Team Fuck All Y'all I'm Tyler Nelson Now Take This Cockslap And Like It?”
That’s good stuff right there. Nice to see Tywon bring back Olsig for this show as well. That’s a great addition to this big show.
Plotting – Interesting plan by Daniels which is pretty much destined to fail. I do love how these two realise, which I guess is unusual, just how much trouble they could be in with all the people they’ve pissed off during their time in PRIME. So that’s enough to carry this to being a solid segment.
A Word – Typical Jason Snow and that’s awesome. I love how he really doesn’t even bother to care about, or pay attention to, what Jay is saying. That’s awesome. I also like how it’s clear Jay struck a nerve with the real Jason Snow, and not the wrestling one, with the lines about caring about someone. That’s a great way that they’ve blended the situation for Jason in real life with the situation for Jason in character. Well done.
Drink Your Milk etc. – LOL! This is the most entertaining segment I’ve read on here yet and I honestly thought, at first glance, it was going to be boring. My first thought was…he’s still got the Oompas running around with him? But as I continued reading the segment it just got better and better and it was quite funny. I loved the Tossed Salad tag team that he’s thinking about managing. That’s hilarious.
The Final Player – This seems like a pretty solid team and it’s pretty clear that they’re happy, well except Richard of course, to see Dusk return. I hear he’s doing pretty well over in SCCW though. I’m going to have to check that out more closely as well.
Match Two – This was another really solid match. Good pacing once more and it was done just right so that you don’t feel like anything is dragging on and on. Out of curiosity though…was Craig the only person who roleplayed for this match up or was his piece just so much better than everyone elses that it was mind blowing? Dusk pretty much put on a clinic in this thing and pretty much eliminated everyone from the opposing team.
The Outer Limits of…Sanity – I like the return of the annoying, entitled, cousins. I always thought they were, by far, the best part of the whole Cozen set up, which I honestly thought was a brilliant set up and feud back when Joe and Lindz had their thing ongoing in Prime. This is a pretty well done segment that appears to be hyping the eventual return of this trio to PRIME TV which, personally, I believe is a good thing. The show needs a little more crazy like this. In fact a lot of other shows could use crazy like this.
The Three Amigos Ride Again – Excellent segment. I particularly love the shilling part, even though it’s at the expense of poor Dusk, it was quality. I also love how Dawkins set him up with the Code Red thing just so he can mock him about there being plenty of pineapple there. That’s great.
Git R Done! – I’ll admit that I’m immediately going to probably hate this segment based on the title alone because I absolutely HATE Larry The Cable Guy. So that is fair warning.
And after the title we get another one of those segments that I don’t get because I probably missed whoever this character was in PRIME.
Finally – Fail. Miserable fail. The attempts by people (and that would include me when I did it a couple times back in Core) in this hobby to rip off Hogan, Rock, and Macho Man, in an amusing way, often do fail and this one did so spectacularly. Plus, I’ll admit, I’ve never really been a huge Watkins fan, though the handler is a really cool dude from what I remember, so this segment had no real shot with me anyway.
Mouse Trap – I like this segment a lot and it works so much better because I love just how different the characters of GBJ and Hessian are and how well they play off one another. This is a great duo that I hope keeps working together for quite some time.
Dealing W/The Devil – This is Jason Snow to perfection. This whole segment just works beautifully in building the Snow arrogance up more, the PPV match up, the upcoming match that evening. I loved this segment. I’m a big fan of Kaiser as well, and I’ll take this moment to say that Matt Ward is a dick. Yep. I said it. How in the hell can the dude who wrote so darn well with Tchu, and was just a dominate freak of nature with that character, turn around and top said character with an even more dominate one? I hate you Matt Ward. I mean I REALLY hate you for that.
Kaiser is just awesome and might be the perfect foil, at this point, for Snow in PRIME. I’m sure there are other characters that might be a more interesting match up, or feud, with Snow but I don’t know everyone well enough to know that yet. Kaiser is brillant though so I’m really looking forward to keeping up with this feud the rest of the way to the PPV.
Match Three – Is it just me or did the match quality in feds just really go up a lot since I’ve been out? I marked out for the returns of Nova, and Violence Jack in this match up. I especially wish Nova would return on a permanent basis as it’s one of the best characters ever. Congrats to GBJ and his team of winners in getting into the main event.
The Long Overdue Goodbye – I really dig the way the crowd goes absolutely nuts for Rayne. It’s great to see someone write a character, whose a fan favorite, who just really gets them going so nuts that even the heel commentator can’t deny how over the good guy is.
And then, just like that, the segment goes exactly where I hoped it would, and actually where I thought it would be. To the good old fashioned Rayne isn’t hurt anymore, the crowd rejoices, the bad guys show up, there’s a fight, and….WHAM! Rayne turns heel. I saw it coming but I’ll be darned if it wasn’t still pulled off so well that I still marked out for it. I really like this kind of thing because it really gets the fans to hate a truly loved character and it makes fan boys of characters shake their heads like…what?
But then I get swerved. Completely swerved. It’s actually Shakur. Holy crap. Well played sir. Very well played. I honestly didn’t see that coming, at all. You guys had me fooled all night into thinking that it was actually Rayne and that he’d turned heel at this moment. Brilliant work.
A Change In The Action – I’ve got to admit that I really don’t care for the Noble character nearly as much as I do Dusk and it comes through in this segment. It almost seems as if Craig is writing the character as clearly inferior to his other character and doesn’t seem to put the same effort, or whatever you like to say, into the character as he does Dusk. I just don’t care for it too much honestly.
Having Chainz in the segment does help it out quite a bit though as Chainz is an easy character to love to hate. I’m with Dave on the idea that the fact that he’s written with absolutely no good qualities, or redeeming qualities, makes him a refreshing character because you can hate him and not feel at all guilty about hating the character. I like that.
Ego – I am really, really, really liking these two going at it. I just love how arrogant Snow is and I love the fact that despite being a very arrogant, and jerk off type of character as well, that the arrogance of Snow is actually able to get under the skin of Kaiser. This is going to be a heck of a feud and this is a really good segment to hype that feud with.
Food For Thought – Good exchange between these two and it will set up the tag team match quite nicely now that Jay knows he was duped. I kind of like how Jay does write him in that way where he can be tricked, or manipulated, like that.
Champions – Good hype segment for the PPV. Even if it is giving props to those friggen Patriots. Ugh.
Escape From Rhode Island – LOL! YES! A Chet Worth segment and even more importantly it’s abruptly cut off! I love that. I should have guessed that the earlier segments had to be Worth segments with all the silly cleaning and stuff. Well played Pete. Very well played.
Match Four - Another extremely well done match up that had me reading pretty much every word, rather than skimming through it. I was actually quite surprised to see Elliot and Chandler eliminated so quickly, given that they’re such huge characters in PRIME right now.
This match up had some great moments in it. Karina facing off with Snow. Kaiser facing off with Olsig in a battle of Instense Title mainstays. Just some really quality stuff thrown into this match up for some really cool fantasy match type moments. I particularly loved how this match up had a big match up feel to it and no one could get an easy elimination. I really liked that part of this match up the most. Congrats to the winners on an extremely hard fought victory in this match up.
Especially for Jay getting the win over Karina. That is big time right there.
The Battle Royal –
Amazing, amazing, amazing main event match up. It was absolutely awesome and it was the perfect ending to such a huge show and in typical PRIME fashion it turns out that a relative unknown character comes out on top, in the biggest match, on a huge PRIME show to show just how stacked this federation is with talent from top to bottom. With all the huge names in the Battle Royal for Kat to come out on top with her new character here was just absolutely outstanding. Great, great, great job. Kudos to her for a massive victory here.
Star of the Show -
For me the star of the show has to go to any one of these three people. Jason Snow, Jay Phoenix, or the winner of the Battle Royal (Forgive me Kat I don't know how to spell that name yet and was too lazy to go back and look). They all made big strides with either their segments, their matches, their wins, or any combination of those. Snow was on the show a few times in some quality segments and had a nice match showing, and Jay had the segments and then a big time win and Kat got in on two big time wins in this event.
An honorable mention would have to go to Kaiser as well. Brilliant character and, yes, I really do hate you because of that Matt.
Segment of the Show -
Rules of the Game or Dealing with the Devil had to be my favorite segments of the night. They just had everything I'd be looking for on a night like this. Great stuff.
Line of the Night -
“When's the last time you were part of a team other than Team Fuck All Y'all I'm Tyler Nelson Now Take This Cockslap And Like It?”
It was the first really great line of the night and nothing was ever able to top it.
Best Match - Far and away the lead in match to the Battle Royal. The Battle Royal itself was great but the match just prior to that was spectacular. One of the better matches I'd read in a long while and had me completely interested in it and who'd win it. Great stuff.
Overall - For a big time show like this, that would be just under a PPV, I've got to give it a 9 out of 10. There is some small things to improve upon in there, and maybe it was just a tad too long, even for a big time TV show, but it was great. Loads of great characters, with great interactions, on a show with a great theme and some great rewards for those who were able to pull out victories. The show really had a bit of everything you need for a big time show like a 200th Episode. Great stuff. Great job to all involved.

Damnit, Dean, it's PRIME. PRIME! You're an alum, for Hoyt's sake!
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for reviewing the show. I appreciate it. :)
Regarding match 2... Most everybody in that match RP'ed from what I saw. Our team (Blues/Rhine/Dusk/Noble/otherguy) had 2 no-shows, but more than a few people in that match wrote total nonsense (myself included).
ReplyDeleteI doubt this clears anything up. :)
Great review Dean, and thanks for the kind words ;)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to clear one thing up though -
"I’m just not really into the whole using gay humor as a way to get cheap heel heat for Natas against Jay simply because he’s a gay man. It just doesn’t work for me and it’s one of the biggest reasons that I feel like so many times when people run a character whose gay wind up not being all that great to watch feuds with because their opponents will always run to the lame, cheap, heat of bashing him for being gay. It works for most people but for me it’s just boring."
Your last line is right, it IS boring. That is why Andy (Natas) isn't doing that at all. We have been doing this angle/feud for the last five or six shows, non-stop (with it actually staring months ago), and it is based on mind-games, more than anything else. Natas has basically made Phoenix look and feel stupid by targetting everything about him ... his 'successes', his failings, his innocence, his friends/relationships and so - if he is targetting everything about him - then his sexuality HAS to come into play. That said it is part of the whole, not THE whole.
Phoenix is a wrestler who is in a same sex relationship - not a wrestler doing a gay gimmick - after all and I think that Andy is playing the heel perfectly.
Excellent! Yes I realised that Jay wasn't a gimmick, but actually was gay, which is what made it seem all the more lame to me. But, as you pointed out, I haven't been following the feud from the start so to find out this was the first time he went down that road is great. Glad to hear that he's pretty much stayed away from that to this point. Always great.
ReplyDeleteThanks for replying to everyone who has.
